CREE HISTORY

STUD 1944

JR (Dick) McGuigan ran a Hereford herd on "Kooyong" in the Rawbelle district of Monto in 1930.

In 1967 John and Merriel McGuigan (Kooyong Cattle Co) introduced cross bred Santa Gertrudis Bulls over these Hereford cows.

In 1992 upgrading of the Kooyong herd to purebred status began, with the Cree stud being registered and the first heifers classified in 2002.

Cree is a family owned stud operation run by John and Merriel and Shaun and Jo McGuigan which to date joins 300 Classified females.

Shaun and Jo's son's Jake and Jed are still actively involved in the stud while persuing their off farm careers. Jake registered his stud Cree-J in 2011.

Sire's influencing Cree genetics have included bulls from Eidsvold Station, Gyranda, Valley View, Rosevale, Robenlea, Strathmore, Kelly-Wallah, Scotlea, Dangarfield, Yarrawonga,Tar-Gre, Warenda, Diamond S Farms and Hunt Farms USA. Canowindra, Green-up and Benelkay.

These bulls and significant AI and IVF programs all contributed to the development of Cree stud.
